Achieving a global standard of Occupational Health and Safety
Monday, 21 December, 2020
With the success of our recent certification, we’re looking forward to 2021 and applying an international standard of Occupational Health and Safety across all of our projects.
After a rigorous and thorough evaluation by an external auditor, we have successfully transitioned certification of our Integrated Business Management System to ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (replacing AS/NZS 4801).
What does this mean?
In simple terms, it’s the new international standard for holding organisations and individuals responsible for safe work systems across global supply chains. The new standard will provide a framework to ensure the maximum safety of our staff.
The business also continues to maintain its certification to the Quality (ISO 9001) and Environment (ISO 14001) Management System standards, recognising our commitment to integrate ESQ requirements into the way we work.
ISO 45001, in particular, has an increased requirement for consultation and participation with all relevant workers. We have involved staff and contractors in managing how we work at each relevant stage, through a modern intranet, cutting edge collaboration tools and representatives at the grassroots level. These channels provide prompt communication and discussion of relevant matters and a collective approach to assessing risks and determining appropriate control measures.
We’ve taken this opportunity to simplify our project management processes and to further integrate our work health and safety controls into the way we run our projects and conduct our field work.
How does this support our team?
This signals our intent for a safe place to work, with everyone in our company playing a crucial role in creating and maintaining a safe workplace. Our ESQ objectives and targets are also now firmly set in our 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, providing us with clear direction for our combined efforts.
How does this benefit our clients?
Our clients in Government, Defence and Industry can be confident we will be working safely, as measured by an international standard, and in compliance with work health and safety legislation. This standard applies throughout our business - from the project level through to training, competence, corporate operations, documentation, hazard identification, risk assessment, maintenance of equipment and continual improvement.
